High Frequency, Spelling, and Vocabulary Words
Below are the Spelling words for the week of January 5th, the HFW and the Vocabulary words for the week of January 12th. Remember HFW and Vocabulary words will come home on alternating Fridays and Vocab sentences are due on alternating Thursdays.
Children will be taking their Spelling tests on alternating Thursdays. Children will be tested on the 12 basic words, 2 review words, and 2 challenge words. They will write four of the words in sentences and will be graded on their sentences. Please review all 16 words and the 4 sentences with your child in preparation for the Spelling test. Children will also have a Spelling assignment in their Spelling notebooks that will be due every other Thursday.
Vocabulary words are introduced to students every other Friday and sentences for each word are due on the following Thursday. Please refer to Vocabulary Sentence guidelines at the beginning of the Vocabulary/High Frequency Word notebook. Vocabulary words will be in the weekly reading stories and used in various Vocabulary activities. Also every other Friday, your child will be introduced to the new HFW words. These words are found with in the Reading activities throughout the week and are essential to building a strong base for reading. Your child will be asked to recite these words every other Thursdays.
